Anthropoiesis

Anthropoiesis is an audiovisual work incorporating visual poetry, narration and soundscape to convey the Anthropocene's rupturing of deep time. Text was adapted from David Farrier's Anthropocene Poetrics (2019) to experiment with new ways in which ecocriticism can not only discuss art and poetry but be reimagined as both. It was exhibited in Palazzo Bembo as part of the European Cultural Centre's "Time, Space, Existence" exhibition of the Venice Biennial, part of the wider Venice Biennale, 2023. The work was featured in concert with installations by Joshua Zeunert and Ainsley Murray, providing the sonic texture of the three works' exhibition cluster.

Research and creative projects on this site took place across the unceded lands of the Noongar, Kaurna, and Cammeraygal peoples. I acknowledge the deep time custodianship, ecological wisdom, and artistic knowledge embedded in First Nations cultures, and recognise their ongoing contributions to storytelling, land care and performance. I pay respect to Elders past and present, and to all First Nations peoples whose Country, knowledges, and cultures continue to shape this work. Sovereignty was never ceded.
