Alys Daroy PhD is an academic, theatre-maker, director and actor in performance, literature and the environmental humanities. She is currently Academic Chair of Theatre and Creative Production and Lecturer in English and Theatre at Murdoch University, Boorloo/Perth, Australia. Her research is in ecological performance, ecocriticism, Shakespeare and biophilic design.
Forthcoming books include: Shakespeare, Ecology and Adaptation, co-authored with Paul Prescott for Bloomsbury Arden Shakespeare (2025) and Sydney's Food Landscapes: Agriculture, Planning, Sustainability, co-authored with Joshua Zeunert for Palgrave Macmillan (2025).
As an actor, Alys has appeared in numerous stage productions in the UK and Australia, as well as worked across television, film, voice over, audiobooks and commercials. As a Shakespeare specialist, she has worked with Shakespeare's Globe, the Cambridge Shakespeare Festival, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Royal Shakespeare Company Open Stages, Shakespeare by the Sea, Bard City, Cantabridgia and Emerge Festival London Lates, amongst others. In 2020, Alys founded Shakespeare South, Australia's first eco-Shakespeare company. She is the recipient of a Royal National Theatre and Sunday Times Ian Charleson Award Commendation for Outstanding Performance in a Classical Production (Yelena,The Wood Demon, Chekhov).

Alys holds a PhD (Monash University AU and Warwick University UK Joint Award), BA Hons. 1 (University of Adelaide), BA Journ. (University of South Australia) and BPA (Australian Academy of Dramatic Art, now the Australian Institute of Music). She has taught at Murdoch University, Monash University and University of Adelaide, as well as consulted extensively within industry.
